Fairy costume: make a tulle puff fairy wand

Fairy costume: make a tulle puff fairy wand

All kids love fancy dress costumes – the fancier the better. So why not make your child’s fairy costume unique with this lovely fairy wand? The step-by-step video below shows you how to make a tulle puff fairy wand suitable for any fairy princess.

What you need:

  • 1 x piece of dowel (25cm long x 5mm diameter)
  • 2 x strips of pink tulle (150cm x 20cm each)
  • A needle and thread
  • A hot glue gun or strong craft glue
  • About 100cm of thick ribbon
  • 50cm of extra thin ribbon for decoration
  • Scissors

Activity:

This tulle puff fairy wand will make any fairy princess pretty in pink.

First you are going to make two tulle puffs.

Take a strip of tulle, bunch it up until it’s about 2.5cm wide, then wind it around your palm (see video)

Now take it off your hand and carefully pinch it in the centre to hold it all in place.  Take your needle and thread and sew a few stitches through the centre. Then wind the thread around the middle and tie it off with a knot.

Now, cut through the ends to make a puff.  Use your scissors to open up the ends.

It will be a bit wonky, so just trim it up until it is roughly ball shaped. Make two of these and sew them together with a few stitches.

Now using your hot glue gun, dowel and thick ribbon, wind the ribbon around the piece of dowel, gluing it in place with dabs of hot glue. (see video)

Stick the double tulle puff to the end of the dowel.

Decorate it with some strips of the thinner ribbon.

Voila! You have a unique, one-of-a-kind fairy princess wand to add to your little girl’s dress-ups box.
