Father’s Day: Make a shirt and tie card

Homemade cards say so much more. Help your child make this shirt and tie card for Father's Day and give Dad a special handmade gift this year.

What you need:

  • 1 x piece of coloured paper 14cm x 10cm
  • 1 x piece of contrasting paper 10cm x 10cm
  • 1 x piece of A4 card
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • glue

Number of players:

Activity:

To make the shirt:

Rule a line across the top of the first piece of paper (14cm x 10cm) one centimetre from the top.  Now mark it 2.5cm in from the edge at each side and mark the centre point.

Cut along the line you have ruled, up to the 2.5cm mark on each side. Now fold those tabs in diagonally to make the shirt collar.

To make the tie:

Fold the square on the diagonal.  Now turn it over and fold each edge in to the centre line.

Turn it over and fold the top tip down about 2.5cm.  Now take the pointy tip of that and fold it back up, so that it reaches halfway. Fold it up again to make the knot of the tie (see video).

Glue the tie to the shirt, so that the collar overlaps.

Now fold your A4 piece of card in half to make the card and glue the shirt and tie to the front of the card.
