How to make paper flowers

This clever fold and cut method makes paper flowers so easy.  Once you get the hang of it, you will want to make a whole bouquet. 

What you need:

• coloured construction paper
• bendable drinking straws
• an egg carton
• scissors
• ruler
• pencil
• sticky tape
• metal skewer

For each flower you will need three squares: 

• 12xm x 12cm
• 10cm x 10cm
• 8cm x 8cm

Now fold each square like this: 

Fold it on the diagonal to form a triangle. 

Now fold each corner of the triangle up to meet in the middle, to form a diamond. 

Fold the diamond in half – where the two halves meet in the middle – to form a triangle. 

Cut a petal shape out of that triangle shape. (See video)

Unfold it and you should have a flower shape. 

Make three for each flower. 

Place three layers on top of each other, centre them and then pierce through the centre with a metal skewer. 

Now push the bendy straw through the centre (with the shorter bendy end at the top of the flower) of the flower. 

You may need to flatten and fold the straw a bit to get it to push through the hole. 

Now use scissors to fringe cut the end of the straw that is poking through the face of the flower. 

Use the bottom part of an egg carton (the part with the cups in it) to make a stand for your flowers. 

Turn it upside down, paint it green (optional) and pierce holes in the top of each egg cup for your flowers to stand in.
