Paper plate sun

This simple paper plate craft idea involves everything kids love: paint, glue, scissors and googly craft eyes.  Set it all out for your child and see if they can figure out how to create a paper plate sun.

What you need:

  • 1 x paper plate
  • 2 x googly craft eyes
  • red and orange construction paper
  • yellow paint, crayon or pencils
  • black marker pen
  • scissors
  • glue

Use crayons, coloured pencils or paint to colour the paper plate yellow.

When the paint is dry, stick the eyes onto the sun's face, draw on a mouth, nose and rosy cheeks.

Cut triangular strips of red and orange paper to make the sun's rays. 

Glue the sun's rays around the edge of the back of the paper plate.

Stick it on the wall or anywhere you think needs a bit of sunshine to cheer things up.
