Healthline's Well Child

Healthline has a free telephone health advice service called Well Child. The Well Child service provides information, advice and support for parents and caregivers of children up to five years. Healthline provides free health advice 24 hours, 7 days. Both Healthline and Well Child can be reached on 0800 611 116.

Whether you’re wondering how to tell if your child is teething, how to get them into a good sleeping routine, or simply how to introduce a fussy little eater to new foods – the Well Child phone service can help.

The Well Child service provides information, advice and support for parents and caregivers of children up to five years. Parents commonly call to ask for advice on topics including health, nutrition, development and behavioural issues.

The Well Child service can also give you information, advice and support on:

  • the availability of Well Child services in the community
  • child health promotion and health education
  • health information, for example, information about immunisation.

Whenever you have concerns about your child you can ring the Well Child service and talk to a nurse about what to do. Nurses might advise you to contact your GP or Well Child provider the next day, or offer advice over the phone on issues like feeding or sleeping.

The Well Child phone service is part of Healthline – a free telephone health advice service for all the family that helps callers decide on the type of health care they need. Each call you make will be assessed and referred to a Well Child nurse or a Healthline nurse, depending on whether your child is well or unwell.

The Well Child service is available to parents and caregivers throughout New Zealand from either a landline or a cell phone.

Call Well Child FREE on 0800 611 116 anytime from either a landline or a cell phone.
