Make an Easter garden hat
The Easter hat parade is tomorrow and you find yourself completely unprepared ... what to do for an easy night-before-the-parade Easter hat that won't leave you in a flap or disappoint the child who will adorn it? Try this fancy Easter garden hat. It's all totally do-able at short notice.
You will need:
- cardboard (just use anything you have at hand - cereal boxes, old cardboard)
- green crepe paper (not essential, you could also just colour in some plain white paper)
- green pipe cleaners
- off-cuts of green cardboard or foamboard
- 2 x A4 pieces of card or paper for decorative bits
- masking tape
- Decorate your own Easter hat printable
How to make your Easter garden hat:
This is a simple crown, with fringe cut 'grass', flowers made of pipe cleaners and some plastic Easter eggs dotted about. The example in this picture is pretty fancy and you can simplify the basic design of this hat by substituting the materials for whatever you might have available.
Cut a piece of cardboard about 15cm x 52cm (depending on the circumference of your child's head.)
Cover that with the green crepe paper, making sure that it sits slightly higher than the cardboard at the top so you can cut it to make a grassy fringe.
Fringe the top of the crepe paper to look like grass.
Make pipe cleaner flowers by drawing flower heads onto card, cutting them out and attaching each to a pipe cleaner using a stapler. You might add a mini pompom, too.
Use masking tape to attach the flowers to the inside of the cardboard crown.
You might also choose to add extra blades of grass cut out of cardboard or foamboard.
Now print out the Decorate your own Easter hat printable and get your child to colour in the eggs.
Cut the eggs out and add them to the Easter garden with glue. Fold the grass down in a random pattern to reveal the eggs.
