How to unstick a zip
Getting a zip unstuck on a fleece or school bag is a pain, stretching both your patience and your wallet. Patience because once those zips get stuck, they're super hard to rehabilitate; and wallet because if you're not a handy seamstress (I'm not) then sewing a new one in is a challenge. If only there was an easy way to unstick zip, but there isn't. Oh no, not ONE easy way at all but THREE supremely simple methods for getting a sticky zip back on track. Here's what you need to know plus a video tutorial to learn how to show zips who's boss.
What you need:
- lead pencil
- cotton bud
- olive oil
Now to unstick the zip
Method one: tweezers
Use tweezers to remove whatever foreign body is making the zip stick, be it part of the fleece or less obvious culprits such as Nerf gun bullets, chewing gum or left over lunch box sammies ...
Method two: lead pencil
If the zip isn't stuck completely but just not running smoothly, rub both sides of its teeth with the lead pencil. This will get it gliding up and down again without any hitches.
Method three: olive oil and cotton bud
Using a tiny amount of olive oil on a cotton bud, rub the oil onto the zip's teeth (both sides) and wiggle the zipper up and down to work it in a bit. Then watch how smoothly that baby runs again. Think of the oil as WD-40 for school zippers.
That's it! Three ways to getting zips unstuck all, er, zipped up!
