Make your own beach swag
Turn your little ones into swagmen - and swaggirls - with their very own swag. Here's how kids can make their own cute beach or picnic swag. All they need to do is grab it and go!
What you need:
- beach towel (or picnic blanket)
- 2 metres of ribbon or thin rope
- essential beach or picnic items
Step 1: Make sure you've got your towel, or picnic blanket, and something to tie it up with.
Step 2: Fold your towel in half lengthways, and then fold in half widthways so the ends are together.
Step 3: Place your essential items on top in the middle of the towel or blanket. Essentials can be things like a hat, swimmers, thongs, sunscreen or snacks.
Step 4: From the folded end, have your child roll up the towel.
Step 5: Tie the rope or ribbon around one end of the towel roll, before tying into a bow. Now keep pulling one loop of the bow through so there is just one loop. Pull tightly.
Step 6: Take the long end of the rope and wrap it around the other end of the towel. Tie it once.
Step 7: Pull this tie really tight and place the swag on the child’s back diagonally with the loop side on the bottom near their hip and the longer rope over their shoulder.
Step 8: Thread the longer length of ribbon through the loop near the hip.
Step 9: Tie into a bow so your child can easily pull on the lengths to undo and take off their swag. Bonza! Your little swagman or swaggirl is now ready for the beach, picnic, or Australia Day.
