Strawberry topping recipe

This strawberry topping is both sweet and chunky and tastes great with ice-cream and fresh natural yoghurt. Find more on Kidspot New Zealand's recipe finder.



  • 2 punnets strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 4 tbsp castor sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


In a saucepan, place half of the strawberries along with the sugar, vanilla and the water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

Process in the saucepan with a stick blender and add the remaining strawberries.

Place back on the stove to heat for 2 minutes.


  • This so simple to make but packed full of flavour.
  • It will keep in the fridge for a couple of weeks.
