Bull's eye egg recipe

This bull's eye egg recipe is sometimes called toad in the hole. It's a delicious egg fried into wholemeal bread. Find more on Kidspot New Zealand's recipe finder.



  • 1 slice wholemeal bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp butter


Butter the bread on both sides. Using a small round cutter, cut a hole out of the centre.

Place a frying pan on a low heat. Cook the bread on one side until browned.

Flip the bread over and gently break the egg into the hole. Cook on low heat until the eggs is set to your liking.

Serve immediately.


  • This is a fun way to team eggs and toast and makes it a little more interesting for the kids.
  • I have been known to spread a little Vegemite on the bread after cooking. I love the saltiness with the egg.
