Slow cooker steak and mushrooms recipe
- 1/4 cup plain flour
- salt and pepper
- 1kg chuck steak, cubed
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3 onions, sliced
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 2 cups beef stock
- 500g button mushrooms, halved
Season the flour with salt and pepper and toss the chuck steak in it to coat.
Heat the oil in a frying pan and brown the steak in small batches.
When all the steak in browned add the onions to the pan and cook until translucent. Add the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes.
Add the beef stock and return the beef to the pan.
Stir in the mushrooms and bring to the boil.
Pour all into the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- This is a basic recipe and you can add some garlic or some dried herbs to increase the flavour.
- You can also add a whole range of vegetables to this dish such as carrots, celery, zucchini, swedes and turnips.
