Greek meatballs (Keftedes)

Ingredients:


  • 500g beef, minced
  • 3 onions, very finely chopped
  • 1 cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint, finely chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 6 slices French bread
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • vegetable oil for frying

Method:

Soak French bread in the 1/2 cup milk and wring out.

Combine with the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Use your hands if you like to get it mixed well.

Take teaspoonfuls and roll in your palms. Roll in flour.

Deep frying in hot oil until a golden crust forms on the outside.

Notes

  • It is ideal to mix this mince and then leave it overnight before cooking.
  • There may seem to be more other ingredients than meat. This is what makes them so flavoursome.
