Damper on a stick recipe

This damper is cooked over the campfire on a stick and is great eaten hot with jam or vegemite. Find more on Kidspot, New Zealand's recipe finder.



  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup milk pinch of salt


Rub the butter through the flour until it is all crumbly.

Mix the salt sugar and milk in until it forms a dough.

Divide into two pieces and roll into a snake shape. Wind around a clean, dry stick or skewer. Hold over the campfire to cook.
