Chocolate self-saucing pudding recipe

Chocolate self-saucing pudding is love in a bowl. It is all soft cakey goodness on top with a thick chocolate sauce underneath.

  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 100g butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 ¾ cups boiling water

Preheat oven to 180°. Grease a 6 cup capacity baking dish with butter and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa and brown sugar.

In a jug, combine the butter, egg and milk.

Whisk the liquid into the dry ingredients until well combined and pour into the baking dish. Smooth the top.

Mix the brown sugar and cocoa together for the sauce. Sprinkle over the top evenly.

Using a metal spoon, touch the tip to the surface of the cake batter and gently pour the boiling water ontor the spoon so as not to splash the surface.

Bake for 35-40 minutes. Serve with thick cream or ice-cream and fresh berries.

  • Give this pudding a minute or two to cool down as the sauce under it is HOT!
  • You can serve this pudding with fresh berries to cut the sweetness -raspberries go especially well.
  • I love to use double cream with this dessert for that extra decadent touch.
