Hard boiled egg recipe

This method for hard boiled eggs ensures that the yolks don't have that awful grey tinge. It is really simple and great for salad and sandwiches. Find more on Kidspot New Zealand.



  • 4 eggs
  • cold water to cover
  • ice water to cover



Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. 

Bring the water to the boil slowly and when boiling, turn off the heat and cover the saucepan with a lid. 

Leave to stand for 12 minutes and then plunge into ice water for 5 minutes.

Gently crack the shells and peel under running water.
