French toast sticks recipe

French toast sticks are perfect for babies and kids who love to hold food in their hands. They taste great when dipped in maple syrup. Find more on Kidspot New Zealand.



  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 4 slices bread, crust removed and sliced lengthways into thirds
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • cinnamon sugar
  • maple syrup to serve


In a shallow dish, mix the eggs, milk and vanilla.

Lay the bread slices in the mixture and leave to soak for 10 minutes.

In a frying pan, heat the butter and cook the bread slices until golden on both sides.

Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Serve with maple syrup.



  • You can soak these overnight and use them the next morning.
  • This is a great way to get egg into babies if they refuse to be fed from a spoon.
