Make a cute bookmark

Make a cute bookmark

Remember the little bald guy, Foo, whose big nose, eyes and hands peeked over a brick wall? Well, we thought he'd make a pretty cute bookmark, peeking over the top of the page. And we even gave him a head of hair. He's easy to make and is a great end-of-year pressie for classmates.

What you need:

  • Stiff cardboard
  • Cutting board
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Wiggly eyes
  • Wool
  • Scalpel

Number of players:
1

Activity:

Step 1. Gather what you need to make your own Foo-inspired bookmark.

Step 2. Cut a strip of cardboard for the bookmark, around 4 centimetres wide.

Step 3. Round one end of the bookmark to form Foo's head.

Step 4. Glue the wiggly eyes onto the bookmark.

Step 5. Cut a bunch of wool into 2-3 centimetre lengths. Or, for a female Foo, plait lengths of wool into a braid and tie off both ends.

Step 6. Squeeze a line of glue around the bookmark's 'head', but don't take the glue lower than the eyes.

Step 7. Stick the wool onto the glue to give Foo a spiky 'do. Or for plaits, glue the braid onto the head. Either way, don't go below the eyes or they won't be able to move over the page.

Step 8. Using your scalpel, gently cut a long, thickish nose into the bookmark. This is what will hold the page, so be sure to make it long enough so it doesn't just slip out immediately.

Step 9. Slip the nose over the page you wish to hold, with the rest of the Foo bookmark slipping behind the page. His head and eyes will peek out the top of the page, making it easy to find again.
